Tlou is the former Minister of Health of the Republic of Botswana and an internationally recognised leader and educator in nursing. Spotlight Interview with: Žilvinas Padaiga Conducted November 2008 Professor Žilvinas Padaiga, currently at the Department of Preventative Medicine at Kaunas University in Lithuania, has enjoyed a diverse career which has encompassed clinical research, policy development and politics. Spotlight Interview with: Mubashar Sheikh Conducted September 2008 Dr Mubashar Sheikh is the recently appointed Executive Director of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) and is a specialist in health system policy and planning. Spotlight Interview with: Joy Phumaphi Conducted July 2008 Joy Phumaphi is Vice President of the Human Development Network at the World Bank. Prior to joining the World Bank in 2007, Ms. Phumaphi was Assistant Director General for Family and Community Health at the World Health Organization. Previously she served as the Minister of Health of Botswana. Spotlight Interview with: Suwit Wibulpolprasert Conducted May 2008 Dr Suwit Wibulpolprasert is a Senior Advisor on Disease Control at the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand. He has extensive experience in the area of human resources for health (HRH) and has published widely on the subject. Dr Wibulpolprasert is chair of the Asia-Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health (AAAH) and also sits on the Board of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) as the Chair of the Policy and Planning Committee. Spotlight Interview with: Juan Somavia Conducted March 2008 Juan Somavia is the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). He is an advocate of social justice and decent work for people around the world. ICHRN spoke to Mr Somavia about the need for decent work for the global health workforce, and the ILO's view of the Positive Practice Environments Campaign. Spotlight Interview with: Eric Buch Conducted January 2008 Eric Buch is Professor of Health Policy and Management in the School of Health Systems and Public Health at the University of Pretoria and is Health Adviser to the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). He is a member of the ICHRN Strategic Advisory Group and currently sits on the board of the Global Health Workforce Alliance. Spotlight Interview with: Dr Gilles Dussault Conducted August 2007 Dr Gilles Dussault is Professor and Head of the Health Systems Unit at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in Lisbon, Portugal. Prior to joining the Institute in August 2006, Dr Dussault was a Senior Health Specialist with the World Bank Institute in Washington, DC. Spotlight Interview with: Dr Manuel M. Dayrit Conducted June 2007 Dr Manuel M. Dayrit is the Director of the Department of Human Resources for Health at the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Dayrit has close to 30 years experience in the health sector and, prior to joining WHO, was the Minister of Health of the Philippines. Spotlight Interview with: Professor Pelenatete Stowers Conducted May 2007 Pelenatete Stowers is the Chief Nursing Officer of Samoa and a prominent leader in health and nursing in the South Pacific region. Spotlight Interview with: Professor Lincoln Chen Conducted January 2007 Professor Lincoln Chen is the World Health Organization Special Envoy on Human Resources for Health and Chair of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA). He is a distinguished professional in international public health and a leader in the field of health human resources. Professor Chen has recently assumed the Presidency of the China Medical Board of New York. Spotlight Interview with: Dr. Linda Aiken Conducted November 2006 Dr. Linda Aiken is a Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania in the US. She is an international authority in nursing health workforce and outcomes research. |
